Set Sale!

The Vagabond's Daughter "set sail" and went to the sale at Une Minette. Lauren did a super job with setting up shop, complete with wind machines to put the scarves into motion. My husband Tim helped by creating the whimsical sail boat mast and boom to display the scarves. Thanks, Babe.
The dyeing demos were awesome, and everyone who participated was so much fun. This concept of group dyeing could make a great party activity.... drink, dip, drink, repeat!

Zoe Zellers from WAG Magazine came and interviewed us and took some hot shots. Merci, Zoe. I can't be there tomorrow, but Saturday we will do another demo at 11.

Come for coffee and cookies and a peruse of all of the finery at Une Minette.

Getting ready for the show.

While I don't imagine I will be selling all 100 silk scarves at the Une Minette trunk show, they surely do make a powerful statement. The chandelier poses as the centerpiece for this column of color, and a wall of persimmon panels flanks the mannequins in the window. I love what Lauren has done, and the pieces of jewelry from White Moth are the perfect accent- bold and organic.

The show begins Thursday and ends Saturday. The interactive dyeing demonstrations will be at 11 and 1 on Thursday and 1 on Saturday. Sign up is encouraged.

A taste of things to come.

Vagabond's Daughter will be packing her trunk filled with accessories for you and your home and setting sail for Une Minette in Wilton on April 26th. Here is just a sampling of the goods that will be available, not to mention a hands on demonstration revealing some of the ancient techniques employed in the making of these treasures.

Tie one on!

Even I run out of ways to tie a scarf... no more! This girl is totally adorable and has demystified the art of scarf tying.

Attention to detail.

My new hang tags and business cards were lovingly (and painstakingly) designed by Art Director extraordinaire Tonya Clinton. From the vintage photo of my Dad, to the velum story of how Vagabond's Daughter came to be, and the yet to be seen embossed seal, my naturally dyed pieces finally have a worthy calling card. Thank you Tonya. The eyelet grommets were hiding in a tin of sewing notions that I bought at a tag sale. My dad would be glad that I was using something that I have had sitting around in a closet for years.

Ellen von Unwerth for Grey #5.

This classic Ellen von Unwerth image is from the archives of Fashion Preservation Foundation. I often scroll down the pages to find inspiration for my pieces. This is my cayenne series. Not actually cayenne pepper, but all natural madder and cutch, amped up with alum and cream of tarter. Over dyed with indigo gives the same color combination as the iron colored garment against the denim colored sky in the photograph.

Just add mint.

Like a good mojito, what is needed is a healthy dose of mint. Ralph Lauren added a heaping helping to his Spring 2012 collection, and now Vagabond's Daughter is doing the same. I like my mint mixed with a little lavender... or muddled with sugar and rum on the rocks!
